Do You Know About Commercial Aircraft Safety?

Members of commerical aviation's trade group, the International Air Transport Association, must abide by safety rules to maintain membership.  The association has 251 commerical airline members, all of whom have to submit to an extensive safety audit. These audits involve five days of inspections by a six-member team. Any finds must be addressed, and there are follow-up audits.

You can find out those airlines that have achieved a passing grade on a current audit at www.iato.org/ps/services/iosa/registry.htm.

This information may assist you as you decide to which airlines you wish to apply for employment.

When you complete your training at Phoenix East, you will be given assistance in developing your resume and preparing for your interviews.  Phoenix East also has partnerships with U.S. airlines, so you can be assured of multiple interviews with airlines as soon as you achieve the minimum requirements.

Virgin Atlantic Purchases Boeing 787 Dreamliners

In order to keep pace with its growth and as part of its strategy to keep the airline internationally competitive on Atlantic routes, Virgin Atlantic Airways will purchase up to 24 new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

This deal is worth approximately USD $3.6 billion. This new generation of aircraft will fly with a new generation of engines also, which are 20% more efficient than those of other wide-body aircraft. The engines are being developed by both GE and Rolls-Royce. The new technology will also make the engines cleaner-burning and less noisy.  Such improvements are important to the aviation industry.

The newer planes' greater fuel efficiency is a key factor in the record number of jetliner orders recently.

8,500 Pilot Jobs Forecast in 2007

During 2006, U.S. airlines hired 1,556 more pilots than they had forecast at the beginning of the year, according to Aviation Information Resources, Inc. Airlines had expected to hire up to 6,700 pilots, but they actually ended up hired 8,256 during the year, according to 2007 Airline Pilot Hiring Forecast.

According to Kit Darby, president of AIR,Inc. "the largest hiring increase came from the national airlines, which forecast hiring 2,100 of the 6,700 pilots. For the ninth straight year the national carriers dominated the industry, adding 3,233 new pilot jobs to their sector -- an increase of 1,133 from what they had originally forecast hiring."

The major carriers came in second, hiring 2,276 new pilots. Leading the way in this category was Southwest Airlines, hiring 604 new pilots, followed by Continental with 435, JetBlue with 381, FedEx with 345, and AirTran, which hired 226 new pilots in 2006.

It is estimated that in the U.S. 8,510 new airlilne pilots will be hired this year, 2007.  It could be even more, depending on pilot retirement, airline growth and foreign demand for U.S. pilots.

If you've always wanted to be a pilot, don't delay.  Demand for airline pilots continues to increase and with proper training you could be an airline pilot in less than 2 years. Now is the time to train. You could be flying as soon as next month!
